Tonight was Fiesta Tipica Night at the children’s school – Vida Abundante. My shabby photos cannot even begin to do justice to the amazing array of color, music, lights and festive atmosphere that invaded the school grounds in a valiant effort to recognize the beauty and tradition of the Americas.
Students showcasing the typical attire of each country in North, Central and South America, walked an extravagantly decorated runway, while music and pictures of said country filled the screens.
Quite fittingly, Breylon and Madi were chosen to represent the United States of America. While it isn’t an immensely cool thing to have to wear a crown of pointed prongs on your head when one is in 6th grade, Madi was a good sport and managed to survive. Breylon was thrilled with his role and didn’t waste more then a moments stress about the process.
Huts built of palm leaves housed a wide array of Honduran delicacies, the sales of which go to benefit a needy school in Honduras. Tamales, Tajaditas with cabbage salad, Tacos, Pupusas, Horchata, Grilled steak and beans, Argentine chicken, Bread pudding, Corn on a cob slathered with cream and cheese….tantalized the taste buds and satiated the hungry stomachs.
Needless to say – an intriguing and fun evening.
