The Sunday Lunch invite…always a pleasure we anticipated giving and receiving many times through out the years of growing up in Mennonite circles. Just the thought brings images of roast beef, home made bread, graham cracker fluff, pickles, slices of Amish cheese or tapioca pudding to mind.
I need not stay on that train of thought too long! Yum!
As relational as the Honduran people are, invites for meals are rare – especially for a Sunday noon meal! Gathering around food tends to happen with celebrations, such as holidays, birthdays or weddings. But just for anyhow…not so much.
A family we are learning to deeply appreciate in the church invited us over for rooster soup! And we were thrilled to accept!
I supplied the cabbage, yuca, green bananas and squash for the soup. Socorro killed the rooster and threw it all together! I definitely had the better end of the deal!
We spent a delightful few hours under the shade tree beside their home. The kids played like monkeys in the trees, took a walk to the river and roamed around in the corn patch behind the house. Mark and I enjoyed the warm breezes as we shared stories and thoughts with Vidal and Socorro.
What could better fill a Sunday afternoon?
